This colorful adventure takes places in 19th century Kurdistan. The power-hungry Mahredsch of Mossul kidnaps the son of Kurd Sheik Mohamed. Adventurer Kara Ben Nemsi (Lex Barker) and his Arab friend Hadschi Halef Omar (Ralf Wolter) set out to rescue the boy. On the way they meet the somewhat eccentric Lord Lindsay (Dieter Borsche) and his servant Archie (Chris Howland). They have to face many dangers before they are able to rescue the sheik's son. The first part of the "Winnetou"-Trilogy, produced with motives of the same called novel of Karl May: The construction of the Great Western Railroad, in the middle of the 19th century in the American West, creates heavy conflicts between settlers, the railway company and neighbouring Indian tribes. This is when criminal gang leader Santer (Mario Adorf) sets his eyes on a gold mine, which is located on holy Indian land. He then influences the construction supervisor, to change original planning and alter the railroad route straight through the Apache land. Old Shatterhand (Lex Barker), who works as a measurement technician for the Railroad society, discovers the evil plan and searches contact with the Indians, in order to unite against the gangsters. Winnetou and Old Shatterhand arrange a conference, in which the Chiefs of different Indian tribes meet with white politicians and generals to negotiate a final peace treaty. The reckless businessman Forrester (Anthony Steel) and his vicious private mercenaries - who don't back up from any kind of crime, including child murder - are thoroughly against these diplomatic efforts. Forrester objects to these "soothing politics", intending to exploit the rich oil fields centred on the Ponca tribes land. Once again white bandits in the service of mean businessmen, are responsible for murder in the Indian reservation. The plan is to heat up tension between Indians and white settlers, and so provoking a lethal army operation. Implementing bad guy is the smart outlaw Rollins. On behalf of the governor, Winnetou and Old Shatterhand hurry to set up peace negotiations immediately with the uncontrollable Jicarillo tribe, but the smart Rollins arranges murder of the son of Jicarillo´s chief White Buffalo. To make matters worse Rollins makes the killing look like as if Winnetou has committed the shameless crime....
