A tale of two passions. In the sprawling evolving metropolis Berlin, a trumpet player named Myriam (Heike Makatsch) lives with Pierre (Charles Berling) and loves him dearly. Simultaneous to Harnack's film, DER 20. JULI (The Plot to Assassinate Hitler), Georg Wilhelm Pabst's ES GESCHAH AM 20.JULI was produced: a group of German officers plans a deadly attack on Hitler. Colonel Count Stauffenberg should direct the "Operation Valkyrie" in Hitler's headquarters Wolfsschanze. The attempted assassination fails: the bomb goes off, but Adolf Hitler is only slightly injured... G.W. Pabst describes the dramatic hours surrounding the attack from July 20, 1944 in an accurate chronicle. The memorable Bernhard Wicki plays the role of Count Stauffenberg.
